Completing this course will contribute 6 hours of NESA registered Professional Development addressing 1.4.2, 2.4.2, 6.3.2 and 7.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
Finding practical uses for concepts explored in pre-requisite courses. Participants will focus on ideas for implementing activities with their students and be given time to workshop and collaborate with others around classroom planning and integrating culture with curriculum.
Pre-requisites of this course are completion of "Foundations of Connecting with Aboriginal Community" and "Understanding Aboriginal Identity". These courses must be attended before enrolling in "Fundamentals of Teaching Culture" as they are essential to understanding the concepts implemented here.
This course is presented face-to-face over one full day. Usual start/finish times are 9.00am - 4.00pm, but this is subject to change. The maximum number of attendees in this course is capped at 15. This keeps the atmosphere intimate and interactive, ensuring that all participants get the most out of the material offered by our passionate teaching staff.
Back to Nature - An exercise used to centre ourselves and connect with the environment around us. This also forms a basis of planning for classroom activities.
Classroom Planning Workshop - A collaborative session with your peers where we focus on finding ways to maximise bringing culture into curriculum.
STRENGTH - Introduction and explanation of a program written for students which focuses on building their identity through culture. Participants who complete this course will now be equipped to become effective in the delivery of STRENGTH in their schools, and will be given their own copy of the program. Initial results of running this program show increased school attendance and positive behaviour.
